Picnic under the stars and enjoy an evening of wonderful classical music and fabulous opera excerpts, plus the traditional "pops" from the second half of the Last Night Proms Concert, as performed in the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The music is glorious, the atmosphere is electric - and the Hamburg Promenaders are as enthusiastic as any audience in London! So, bring your picnic, rugs, chairs and lanterns and a hearty voice for a fantastic evening out picnicking under the stars to the sound of popular classics.
The Last Night of the Proms Season in the Royal Albert Hall in London is now a British institution. It is a unique and exciting occasion which traditionally attracts a huge following and actively encourages an enthusiastic audience to dress up, wear silly hats, sing their hearts out and wave flags in time to the rhythm of such national anthems as 'Rule Britannia' and 'Land of Hope and Glory'.
What is the British Day Open Air Proms Concert?
Our concert is based on the final night of the Proms concerts held annually in the Royal Albert Hall, London - with the additional fun of bringing your own picnic and seating.
When is the concert?
The concert will be held on Saturday 28 August and starts at 20.30. For those who want to set up their picnics beforehand, doors will open at 18.30
Where is the concert?
The concert will be held at the same venue as British Day - the Hamburger Polo Club, Jenischstrasse 26, 22609 Hamburg - Klein Flottbek (S-Bahn Klein Flottbek). Map
Who is performing?
Back by popular demand, top conductor Russell N. Harris from the UK will lead musicians from the Philharmonie Suedwestfalen and will be supported by "Opera Interludes" from London.
The programme will consist of a mix of popular classical music pieces with everyone joining in the second half of the programme for a soul-stirring climax of Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory. Come along and join in this unique atmosphere.
Where can I buy tickets for the concert?
You can buy tickets in advance (€20.00 + ticket office charges) at any of the ticket offices listed on this site. Tickets can also be purchased throughout the day on Saturday 28th August at the main gate of the Polo Club for €25.00, although we do recommend that you buy them in advance to save money and to avoid the rush and the queue.
Are there cheaper tickets for Children?
As this is a charity event there are no concessions. All money raised from the tickets will be donated to children’s charities in and around Hamburg. See the Charities page for more information.
Will the concert be cancelled if it rains?
Absolutely not! In true British style, the show must go on. If it looks like rain, bring an umbrella and rainproof clothing.
Are there seats provided?
There are no seats provided – please bring your own rugs/chairs/lanterns/picnics/flags and tooters … and a good singing voice!
